Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Haz-Waste, Inc. takes an active role in assisting our clients in developing pollution prevention programs. These programs involve looking at the full hierarchy of waste management strategies of reduce, reuse, and recycle. Source reduction has the highest impact of reducing wastes and controlling and lowering costs at an industrial facility. Source reduction includes raw material substitution, good housekeeping practices, process modifications and product reformulation. Reuse and recycling are more expensive than source reduction and are not as effective in conserving resources at a plant.

Pollution prevention programs are structured around environmental assessments Haz-Waste, Inc. conducts at facilities. The following steps are the outline of the assessment process:

  • Select Aspect to be Assessed
(Production Line, Underground Tank, Parts Washer with Solvent)
  • Determine Potential Impact
(Spills, Air Emissions, Waste Generation Water Discharges)
  • Establish Applicable Requirements
    (Federal State and Local Regulations)
  • Implement Management Systems
    (Plans, Procedures, Controls, Training, Etc.)

Environmental assessments are an on-going process. Haz-Waste, Inc. continues in partnering with our clients to look at every process in a plant and look for potential reduction ideas.
